PhD Position at the Old Dominion University Computer Science on Image Analysis and Retrieval of Diagrams
The Web Science Digital Libraries (WS-DL) group at the Computer Science Department at the Old Dominion University at Norfolk, VA, USA is recruiting a fully supported graduate student in the PhD program. The student will be primarily working with Dr. Jian Wu, assistant professor of Computer Science, on mining figures and diagrams in academic publications. The project will leverage cutting-edge technologies in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and big data to extract, classify, and retrieve from scholarly big data corpora, built based on the CiteSeerX project. The lab directed by Dr. Jian Wu will closely collaborate with the Los Alamos National Lab and the CiteSeerX group at the Pennsylvania State University on this project. The student, once admitted, will start the position as soon as possible. The requirements include the following:
The applicant shall have a Bachelor's degree in at least one of the following subject domains: Computer Science, Information Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Astronomy & Astrophysics. A Master's degree in the above fields is a plus.
The applicant should have solid programming and algorithmic skills, preferentially in Python. Experience with packages such as openCV, scikit-learn, tensorflow, and/or Solr/Elastic Search is plus.
The applicant should have relevant experiences, sources, or publications, regarding at least one of the following subjects: computer vision, database systems, information retrieval, machine learning, and big data.
